Last year, we went with a group of friends camping on the weekend after the may long weekend. We loved it so much, that we decided to do it again this year, on the same weekend. I think this means an annual tradition or something … !!
Between four families (9 kids, ages 5-1, and 2 on the way), there was not a shortage of fun to be had for the boys! My friend organized a scavenger hunt for the kids and everytime I asked if Judah was excited for it, he insisted, “Mom, my name is Judah not Hunt“. This kid, cracks me up. Most of the time was spent trying to catch gophers and crawfish – dads were totally the instigators in these activities. Judah’s tire is blown on his bike and we didn’t bring it, but thankfully, with all those kids there always seemed to be a bike he could ride. Hunter (much like his mama) ate more fruit than we could keep track of and they both slept so well both nights. A very different detail compared to last year’s camping escapades(!).
Food has always been one of my favorite parts about camping. I did a camp food post last year and think I will have to make another one as there are a plethora of good recipes/ideas out there. Staples for me always include: tons of fresh fruit, some good coffee, bacon, and chocolate. Hmmm, sounds a lot like what our staples are when not camping too! When we went camping with Matt’s brother and family a couple summers ago, Fawne made some bread dough and brought cinnamon and sugar to douse it with. Let’s just say, since then, every camping trip has also had that on our list.
It’s so great to make memories with our kids and friends that definitely feel like family. I’m sure the boys will always have cherished memories of these camping trips … I know I already do.
